Award-winning Maui artist John A. Hugg is NOT a painter, but many people think he is. John’s digital photographic Fine Art pieces, which he prints and sells primarily as “premier giclees” on canvas, definitely take on the aspect of paintings.
His specialty is capturing images that other people don’t even notice, which he brings to life using a combination of imagination and digital expertise. One of his greatest pleasures is seeing and hearing people react to the images he produces.
Internationally acclaimed painter Robert Lyn Nelson is among those who enjoy and collect John’s art.
Back in his college days on the mainland, John competed at the national level in gymnastics. To this day he still loves using his gymnastic skills as he leads island adventure hikes & photography tours, where he often discovers new imagery to create his unique pieces.
As president of the venerable Maui Camera Club (est. 1936), John seeks to educate and encourage photographers of all levels and interests. Attend any of the meetings, classes and competitions, and you will see he is quite passionate about sharing knowledge and vision.
John handles most of the canvas finishing for Limited Editions Maui. He is a master of that craft, and happily teaches his many skills as well.
