Brief Bio Description

Award-winning photographer Ray Mains is considered one of the best in the islands. Compiling a stock photo collection of more than 100,000 images since 1978, Ray is consistently recognized for his artistic aerial images of Hawaii and his extensive scenic, commercial, underwater and portrait photography.

Ray’s photos have appeared in local and national publications, including National Geographic, TIME, Newsweek, USA Today, Oceans, Skin Diver, Sports Illustrated, Honolulu magazine, Hawai’i Magazine and Aloha Magazine. He contributed to numerous books about Hawai’i including Maui On My Mind, Discovery-The Hawaiian Odyssey, The Hawai’i Canoe, Road to Hana, Sun In Hawai’i and Maui Bound. Ray has produced over 100 scenic Hawaiian postcards and posters of Molokini Island and Makena Beach.

Some of his commercial clients include Wailea Resort, Kapalua Resort, Mercedes Benz USA, Caterpillar, John Deer and the Norwegian Cruise Line, Pride of Hawaii Cruise ship. Ray has produced his own calendar for the island of Maui for many years. His new book, the “Views of Maui” by Ray Mains, includes 30 brilliant full size and double page photos of Maui.

He is a dedicated outdoors person, outrigger canoe paddler, sailor and SCUBA instructor. His adventures in Hawaii and abroad have given him a profound appreciation for the earth and its splendor. This passion is captured in his work. Ray Mains is also a digital photography instructor at the University of Hawai’i Maui Campus.
